About Brunel University, London

Brunel University, London is a public research university which is located in Uxbridge, West London, United Kingdom. Brunel was established way back in 1960 and is one of the members of the British Universities. Brunel College of Advanced Technology was recognized and awarded a Royal Charter in June 1966, and it became Brunel University. The university is also illustrated as A British Plate Glass University. Brunel University is ranked amongst one of the top 400 universities in the world by QS World University Rankings in 2020 and also the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2020. The university has a feather in the cap as it has also won the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2011. Besides, Brunel is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, and Universities UK.

 

Campus and Campus Life:

Brunel University devised a 10 year long master-plan for the campus, in the late 1990s. The plan included an extended library, a state-of-the-art sports complex, renovated students’ union facilities, a new Health Sciences teaching centre, and the construction of more halls of residence. Brunel also comprises of a gym, spa, and running track with professional training and medical facilities that includes a pharmacy. There is also a shop, one bar called Locos, a nightclub called Venue, and a café named “1966” after the year of the university’s founding. Brunel was also one of the first UK universities to participate the Formula Student engineering competition, which is an annual event where universities from around the world compete in static and dynamic events using formula style racing cars that are designed and manufactured by the students. There are now approximately 34 self-catering halls of residence on-campus, with a total of 4,549 rooms, which also includes studio flats for co-habiting couples. Rooms are available for undergraduates, postgraduates, students with disabilities.
