About
In accordance with Further and Higher Education Act, De Montfort is Public University established in 1992, as a Degree Awarding Body. It is situated in the city of Leicester, England. The origins of De Montford University lie in Leicester School of Art which was established on 1870. In 1990, the University was determined to become a multi campus Collegiate University, and as such, it effortlessly acquired many other campuses. Further, it went on to acquire many other higher education activities of Bedford College of Higher education, Lincolnshire College of Art, Lincolnshire College of Agriculture, and Riseholme Agricultural College.
Campus and Campus Life
Close to Leicester Center, the Leicester Campus occupies what once was the religious precinct of the castle. The University of bordered by the Magazine Gateway or as is called Newarke Gateway which dates back to 15th Century. The Campus comprises listed buildings which includes the Trinity House which was rebuilt in 1901. The campus has gone through several developments in the recent times such as the Hugh Aston Building. The Campus Center is a 3- floor building that provides a wide range of facilities for the students. The building is home to DMU’s Student Union which comprises of various societies Student Radio Station, Demon FM, Demon TV, a Newspaper which is run by the students fortnightly published through the term time. The 4 library sited in the Campus comprises of the main Kimberly Library and the 3 ancillaries. Many Library functions such as academic databases, and online account management facilities are also available off campus for student’s access.
Academic Faculties:
De Montfort University comprises of three academic faculties:
- Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities
- Faculty of Business and Law
- Faculty of Health and Life Science.
The original name of Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering was renamed on 1st October 2008 to be Computing, Engineering and Media (CEM), which comprises of School of Engineering, the Leicester Media School and the School of Computing.
